Q: How did you become a wedding planner?

A: I started my career as an elementary school teacher. A couple years into my career, a friend asked me to coordinate her backyard wedding and I accepted. It was the first time wedding planning piqued my interest. Continuing through my teaching career, I began to realize that the job fit my skill set but didn’t fulfill me.

During my last year of teaching, I was teaching kindergarten virtually and began working part time at INDUSTRY. When the full-time job opened up, I joined the team and have never looked back. I immediately fell in love with wedding planning and realized that I’d found my passion. I’m so thankful to have found a career that I love!

Q: Can you walk us through a typical day at an INDUSTRY event as the planner?

A: When I first arrive, I prepare the venue for the wedding party’s arrival and help get them settled in the ready room. From there, my morning includes welcoming vendors, family members, and setting up the tables, chairs, patio, and decor.

In the afternoon, I facilitate things like the couple’s first look, wedding party photos, vendor setup, and final touches to the ceremony and reception decor. I make sure to cross-check all details that have been discussed previously with vendors to ensure we’re all on the same page.

Before guest arrival, I confirm that the couple is tucked away and prepare the officiant, family, and bridal party for the ceremony. During the ceremony, I send people down the aisle and make sure everything runs smoothly.

During cocktail hour, I help the couple sign their marriage license and organize everyone for family photos. While I’m doing that, my team is working hard behind the scenes to move the chairs from the ceremony to reception space, transferring necessary decor from one room to the other, lighting candles, and so much more! I couldn’t do it without my team. Once cocktail hour is over, I direct guests to take their seats in the reception space and prepare the bridal party for grand entrances. My assistant and I facilitate the wedding party’s grand entrances and initial formalities.

From there, I facilitate dinner service (oftentimes dismissing guests to the buffet), remaining wedding formalities, and lots of fun touches! As the event is ending, I organize the couple’s send off and ensure they have everything they need. Once the couple has departed, my team and I clean up the decor and personal items, prepping everything for pick up in the morning. It’s a long and exhausting day, but truly a BLAST!

Q: What event trends are you seeing in Indianapolis, lately?
A: We love to see the mother-of-the-bride get honored in some way during the ceremony or reception. It’s so cool to see her included even if it isn’t traditional.

Q: What is your favorite wedding you’ve ever planned at INDUSTRY?
A: Every wedding is so different because they represent the couple’s personalities. I really enjoy getting to know my clients and what is most important to them on their big day. I could never pick a favorite; there are too many good ones!

Q: What part of an event gets you most excited? (Catering, design, etc)
A: I love designing an event and bringing people’s vision to life!

Q: Do you have any advice for couples planning their wedding in 2025/2026?
A: My advice: Focus on what is most important to YOU when planning. It can be hard to please everyone and you likely won’t be able to do it. Remember that this is a day to celebrate you and your love for one another, so do what makes you happy! And don’t worry, I’ll be there along the way to help make this a reality 🙂
